Interactive Station Limb Loss and Difference Lab
The Limb Loss and Difference Lab at TCU , led by Dr. Malaka G. Finco, focuses on improving care and quality of life for individuals withlimbloss,combiningkinesiologyandrehabilitativemedicine. The lab’s research pillars include analyzing musculoskeletal health, establishing fall risk screening and exploring ethical implications of new prosthetic technologies. Additionally, the lab partners with the Amputee Coalition and develops patient centered solutions. The lab has students from both clinical and research-focused programs. They explore ethics, perceptions of technology and preferences using surveys, interviews and focus groups.
Dr. Malaka G. Finco Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences
Dr. Finco is a researcher and certified orthotist and prosthetist and directs the Limb Loss and Difference Lab at TCU, teaching under-graduate students about biomechanics. She is currently on the board of directors for The O&P Founda tion, where she serves on the research and board development committees. Dr. Finco has mentored a wide variety of students in clinical research, secured competitive funding, published manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited to speak at numerous national conferences.
